Left or right?
The evolution in British history saw the slow development of a political movement representing the working population of wage-earners. Social and economic conditions and universal suffrage set the stage for constituents demanding changes in government policies that began to undermine the elitist character of benefits of policies to ones that addressed a range of concerns of lower income groups.
This developed a confrontational system as well the development of a power base in the Labour party for the working population.
UK-Independents has no agenda that establishes a position on the political spectrum between the so-called extreme left or the co-called extreme right. Society contains individuals that cover most of the spectrum but the extremes represent a minority and therefore if we have a "representative" set of independent candidates it is unlikely that either end of this spectrum would prevail.
On the other hand recent changes in the Consevative party and in the Labour party have seen the imposition of more extreme party positions imposed on the basis of whips or expulsions of MPs and party members. As a result, these parties are coalescing around a similar set of expressed values that are not shared by those banished or, pehaps by the voting majority. Again, to break this deadweight of party machines, whips and bullying, it is necessary to encourage a full range of representation that is only possible through independent MPs who are free from party machines
